As a coach, I am in awe of Coach K’s achievement of 1,000 wins. I have thought several times over these past several days about sending him a note to wish him congratulations and tell him how much I appreciate what a great ambassador he has been for the game.
The lyrics of “The Cat’s in the Cradle” kept coming to my mind. Do you remember that song by Harry Chapin? It’s about a father who doesn’t have time to spend with his son. Later on, his son doesn’t have time to spend with Dad. (There’s a link to the recording at the bottom of this post.) In other words, “I have good intentions, but I don’t always follow through.”
Is there someone you need to call or write — or spend time with, but you just can’t get around to it? Don’t wait until it’s too late. I know it’s basketball season. I know how bad the weather is. I know how tired we all get.
Just take off your warm-up jacket and get into the game. Make that call today! The Cat’s in the Cradle!
P.S. I just sent Coach K that note.

Thanks, Coach. Your teaching and perspectives still influence me in many ways each and every day. This is just another example of that. It was great to hear from you!
