”Like the wounded oyster, he mends his shell with a pearl.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
The basketball season is upon us. There will be wins and losses, players quit, parents upset, ‘bad’ officials’ calls, disappointment, and even despair. It may well be impossible to go through a season unscathed, unhurt or un-disappointed. Yet, as the oyster can only produce a pearl when it is sorely pricked, you can produce a pearl every time you are verbally or mentally wounded.
Know with certainty that there is a pearl somewhere in the confusion and disappointments of coaching and life. There is a pearl waiting to grow inside you!
The only thing you have to do as a coach and teacher is to be thankful for what you have, joyful in what you have received, steadfast in your core values, and patient enough to keep looking for that pearl.
By opening yourself to others with your time and love you can become a pearl yourself.

Be a Pearl!
Be a pearl of forgiveness.
Be a pearl of love.
Be a pearl of kindness.
Be a pearl that can forget.
Be a pearl of strength for others.
Be a pearl of caring.
Be a pearl of healing.
Be a pearl of lifting.
Be a pearl of values.

Please send me your own “Be a Pearl of ….”
Keep looking inward and have a most joyous Thanksgiving.
