“For all coaches out there, this book is a must-read.”
– John Calipari, Head Coach, University of Kentucky Wildcats
The Golden Whistle is for basketball coaches and every person who wants to become the best they can be!
This fable takes you on a journey into the heart of a coach’s world. You’ll meet Ted Faylor, the renowned Golden Whistle coach, who is at the pinnacle of his career; and Little K, his ambitious young student assistant, who knows he can be a great coach and is sure he has all the answers. But the novice coach has a lot to learn and he learns it all the hard way. This learning leads him to the ten Golden Nuggets, which hold the secrets to earning the Golden Whistle — success in basketball coaching and, more importantly, in life.
When you engage the teachings of the Golden Nuggets as Little K did, you’ll find that you can improve your coaching, your players, your team, and the lives of everyone around you.

Author Jim Burson talks about The Golden Whistle and why he wrote it
“There are a lot of X and O books out there – I’ve probably read all of them – so I was inspired to write something a little different. The Golden Whistle combines a good story and ten nuggets that I think can help you no matter what you do in life.”
– Coach Jim Burson, author
The Golden Whistle made me stop & think about how I coach. Best book I’ve read 4 coaches. If u hvnt read it ur missing out.
Not Just for Basketball’ers. I’m not a sports fan, but this book hits my interests, actually relates as much to Zen and the practice of conflict resolution as it does to sport. Any sport. …. A very human view of athletics, a push for compassion in lifestyle.
I LOVED THIS BOOK! I’m not a basketball coach, nor a basketball player…BUT I LOVED THIS BOOK! Coach Burson includes plenty of basketball, which is interesting, but it’s merely a vehicle. The focus of this book is relationships. If you’re in a position of leadership, whether you’re a coach, teacher, sales manager, CEO, parent, or babysitter…help your people blossom. This book will absolutely inspire and guide you. Coach Burson loves his players! That comes through throughout. Great read
Thank you. #gofightswim
